The Cape Point (Cape Poin) Route offers steep cliffs and stunning ocean vistas. There are plenty of Cape Point wine tasting opportunities in the Constantia wine region. Starting in Cape Town, take the Constantia Wine Route and visit your choice of estate - Buitenverwachting, Constantia Uitsig, Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and Steenberg. The drive ends in the Steenberg Winery, a vineyard located on Cape Town’s oldest farm. Constantia’s vineyards lie on the gentle slopes at the foot of Constantia Mountain, and the area is blessed with a mild Mediterranean climate and ample winter rainfall.
The area remains fertile even though the soil varies with the elevation of the mountain slopes, which are mostly granite-based and contain significant amounts of clay. An increased sandstone content is found higher up. White wine is more common here as making red wine is more difficult because of excessive humidity. Therefore slopes receiving a lot of sun are much sought after.
When you need a break from your drive, you can relax in the scenic village of Noordhoek, purchase wine and partake of platters of delicious food.
Cape Point vineyards, estates, and winemakers are known for Semillon, Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Pinot Noir.
